Words of Institution A Statement on Baptism A Confession of Faith
The minister says to the parents and god parents:
In presenting Aidan Donald for baptism, desiring that he may be grafted into Christ as a member of his body, the Church, do you receive the teaching of the Christian faith which we confess in the Apostles’ Creed?
I do.
The congregation affirms the faith:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

The minister says to the parents and god parents:

Message from Liz Hare of the Citadel Arts Group
We are a Leith-based company with a strong interest in local history and stories, and have created many books of local memories and plays based on these stories. Our most recent project was based in the Custom House where our writers group will be meeting next term starting in October.
One of our group has been looking into some of the fascinating people who are buried in North Leith Cemetery and we wondered whether we could create a play based on their lives. There’s Thomas Gladstones, grandfather of the Prime Minister William Gladstone whose son worked at Leith Roperie; Lady Anne McIntosh who raised a regiment for Prince Charlie in 1745; Rev David Johnston who was North Leith Parish Church Minister and founded the Blind Asylum; noted Perthshire poet Robert Nicol and Matilda Molesworth who came from a very interesting Leith family.
Citadel wondered whether any of the congregation might be interested in getting involved in the project. Some may have an interest in local history and might be able to help with the research. They could be our script consultants. Maybe we could have a trial reading of the script for the congregation and they could give us feedback on the play. We usually work with professional actors but if there are any keen amateurs in the church they might be able to get involved as performers. We’d be happy to meet up with anyone who likes the sound of what we’re proposing.
Many thanks for helping by passing on this information.
