Christian Aid Week, 10 – 16 May 2021

Last year the lockdown took us by surprise and we were unable to carry on fund raising as usual during Christian Aid Week.

This year Christian Aid has provided an option to make things easier. There will still be envelopes, but all we need to do is deliver them. If the person receiving an envelope wishes to make a donation they will be invited to return it to the church office or make a donation online, whichever they prefer.

To make things easier we will only deliver to homes that have an easily accessible letter box.

If you would be willing to deliver 100 or so to a street or two in the parish please let me know after church or email me at hudsonz@blueyonder.co.uk
Many thanks

Jimmy Hudson

Prayer for this Sunday Evening at 7 pm

“We see something of the identity of God revealed in the self-giving of God. In the self-giving of God, we see revealed the truth that: ‘God is love’. In the light of our understanding of this truth, there will follow, in large measure, the pattern of how we engage with others.”

We pray:

God whose name is Love,
We see your love revealed
In the giving of your Son.
May we embrace the offer of your love
And live in response to your generosity.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God whose name is Love,
We see your love revealed
In the One who shares in our humanity and who suffers on our behalf.
May we live as those who share a common humanity
And in the suffering of the world.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God whose name is Love,
We see your love revealed
In the community of your people and in all who are made in your image.
May we share in the life of your people
And recognise your image in the life of others.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God whose name is Love,
We see your love revealed among us
In the places where love is known and fear is cast out.
May fear be cast out and love be known
In the community we share and in the spaces we shape.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God whose name is Love,
We see your love revealed among us
In the resurrection of your Son and in the promise of your Spirit.
May we live as those who share in the hope of the resurrection
And in the life of your Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Amen

Lord our God,
We listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd,
For he is the One who will guard us and keep us
And lead us safe home.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord our God,
We listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd,
For he has spoken to us throughout all our days
And still he speaks, even amidst the clamour of the day.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord our God,
We listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd,
For he has nurtured and provided for us
And lifted us up, even when we have fallen.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord our God,
We listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd,
For he is the One who has laid down his life for us
In order that we might have life, even in the face of darkness.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Lord our God,
We listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd,
For your goodness and mercy still follows us
And you shall lead us safe home, even at the end of our days.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Hymn 604 Holy wisdom, lamp of learning

1Holy Wisdom, lamp of learning,
bless the light that reason lends.

sparks of thought your Spirit sends.
Sanctify our search for knowledge
and the truth that sets us free.
Come, illumine mind and spirit
joined in deepest unity.

2 Vine of truth, in you we flourish;
by your grace we learn and grow.
May the word of Christ among us
shape our life, our search to know.
Joined to Christ in living, dying,
may we help the church convey
witness to the saving gospel,
bearing fruit of faith today.

Benediction

May the blessing of God almighty,
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
rest upon us
and upon all our work and worship
done in his name.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
Amidst the disturbance of the times,
May we hear your word and embrace the peace you offer.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Living God,

May you speak to us in the still small voice of calm.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Peace be with you.
When we are fearful and troubled,
May you speak to the depths of our fears and still our troubled hearts.

Hear our prayer.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
As we hear his voice,
May we reach out to the One whose presence is renewed and revealed before us.

Hear our prayer.

Easter Sunday

Welcome and Call to Worship

Call to Worship
(based on Psalm 118)

This is the day that the Lord has made,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it,

We rejoice in the dawning of light and the empty tomb,

In the presence of angels and the peace of the garden,

In the rising of Jesus and the defeat of death,

We give thanks to the Lord for he is good,

His steadfast love endures for ever,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it,

Praise the Lord,

Alleluia!

Hymn 415 This Joyful Eastertide

Hymn 415 This Joyful Eastertide

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

(from Very Reverend Dr Derek Browning, Moderator of Edinburgh Presbytery)

Lord Jesus Christ,

Come, stand among us,

that we might see You by our side,

that we might hear You call our names,

that we might now, on this heady day of joy,

be still, right now, and know that You are God.

We give You heartfelt thanks from our full hearts.

We bring to You our prayers this day

For a world needing Easter.

We pray for those locked in by hurt, and loneliness and grief.

We pray for those locked in by addiction, and hunger, and poverty.

We pray that we, inspired by Your Good News this Easter Day,

may bring our practical care and help to those who call out,

and to those who are silent,

and in our lived-out faith and love, show no partiality

as we bring what hope we can to those in need.

Today we pray for our nation, for our Queen,

and for those who shape the future of our country and our world.

In times of uncertainty make us confident with kindness.

In times of frustration, make us gentle with vision.

Help us to be the Easter people bringing light into our world.

Lord Jesus Christ,

for the Church we pray, that in our work and witness

we may be generous in our believing,

and joyful in our serving.

Help us to blend tradition and newness,

to keep our faith and work a power for good,

and a dynamic for reconciliation and renewal.

This Easter Day, this new beginning, this time of lifting up,

lift up our heads and hearts, lift up our eyes and voices,

for our Lord Jesus Christ is risen!

And there is hope!

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Hymn 419 Thine be the glory

Hymn 419 Thine be the glory

Blessing

Christ was raised from the dead

Let us set out, then, on a new life with Christ

and may the Blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with us and with all those we love, now and for evermore.

Amen
