Welcome and Intimations

Call to Worship

Hymn 111 Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty
1 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
God ever living through eternity.

3 Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the sinful human eye thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

4 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity

Prayer of Approach, ending with Lord’s Prayer

First Thought

Hymn 485 Dear Lord and Father of mankind
1 Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
forgive our foolish ways;
reclothe us in our rightful mind,
in purer lives thy service find,
in deeper reverence, praise.

2 In simple trust like theirs who heard,
beside the Syrian sea,
the gracious calling of the Lord,
let us, like them, without a word
rise up and follow thee.

3 O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
where Jesus knelt to share with thee
the silence of eternity,
interpreted by love!

4 With that deep hush subduing all
our words and works that drown
the tender whisper of thy call,
as noiseless let thy blessing fall
as fell thy manna down.

5 Drop thy still dews of quietness,
till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress,
and let our ordered lives confess
the beauty of thy peace.

6 Breathe through the heats of our desire
thy coolness and thy balm;
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

Sermon

Hymn 533 Will you come and follow me
1 Will you come and follow me
 if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

2 Will you leave yourself behind
if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare,
will you let me answer prayer
in you and you in me?

4 Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found
to reshape the world around
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

5 Lord, your summons echoes true
when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
in you and you in me.

Doxology spoken together

To God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Spirit, three in one,
praise, honour, might and glory be
from age to age eternally.

Prayer of Dedication for the Offering

Prayers for the World

Hymn 448 Lord, the light of your love is shining
1 Lord, the light of your love is shining
in the midst of the darkness, shining;
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us,
set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me, shine on me:

Shine, Jesus, shine, –
fill this land with the Father’s glory;
blaze, Spirit blaze,-
set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow,
flood the nations with grace and mercy;
send forth your word,-
Lord, and let there be light!

2 Lord, I come to your awesome presence,
from the shadows into your radiance;
by your blood I may enter your brightness,
search me, try me, consume all my darkness.
Shine on me, shine on me.

3 As we gaze on your kingly brightness,
so our faces display your likeness,
ever changing from glory to glory,
mirrored here may our lives tell your story.
Shine on me, shine on me.

Blessing
Threefold Amen

A Prayer for the week from the Church of Scotland web-site

Loving God thank You for the readings and the teaching of the scripture today.
Encourage us to believe in You and in ourselves
so that we may carry out the work You would have us do.
We pray for the planet You made.
Where there is war bring peace, and guide people through storms, droughts or any challenging situation.

We pray for the people of the world, may they know Your grace in their lives.
We pray for those who are ill, dying or supporting someone through these times.
May they find comfort knowing that Your loving arms are waiting for them and for those left behind,
give them the knowledge that You are there for them too.
We pray for our church in a time of change.
There will be people who are hurt, but help us all, to focus on Your uniting love.

All these prayers we offer in the name of Your Son, our saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
